On the weekend there was a big storm and lots of flooding in our area. On Monday morning we got into a big circle and shared our stories from the weekend. (Heidi and Arnika)
We had a discussion about how we always have to do writing after something interesting happens. We decided that this time we'd do some art about rain instead. (Pascoe)
Our goal was to create a rainy day picture using a horizon line and white crayon with ink.(Jordan)
First we had to get a piece of A3 paper and a white crayon. (Jacob)
With our white crayon we drew a horizon line and some oval shaped puddles and rain drops that landed in the ovals. (Ephraim)
Next we used coloured crayons to draw a rainbow or lightning strike in the sky. (Pippa)
While we were drawing with the crayon, Mrs Hancock took a photo of us holding up an umbrella.
After we'd drawn our picture we had to dye it with purple, blue and green. We put bits of the colours around the picture so it looked like a rainy, stormy sort of background. (Charlie, Mackenzie W, Pascoe)
We noticed that the white crayon lines stood out clearly when we put the dye on the paper. (Arnika)
Once we had finished dyeing, we cut our photos out and glued them onto our pictures using a sponge. (Judah)
Then we laid them on the floor to dry. (Courtney)
Then we brainstormed as many describing words as we could think of about the floods. (Heidi)
Lastly we wrote some of those words onto our artwork. (Jordan)
We think they look fabulous and can't wait to see them all up on the wall!!!
